"Life is short, art is long, jazz is forever." - Bruce Lundvall
Thank you, Bruce, for everything you have done for us all. You led the music industry with a continuous bright light, leaving the field with an unparalleled example of character to follow as artists, businessmen, and human beings. We will never forget you.
Bruce is certainly one of the most inspirational people I have ever known. While his support and encouragement to my music was a milestone in my life as an artist, more significantly than that, I am blessed to have called him a friend. Hanging with Bruce and checking out the latest jazz tracks or some classic gems never got old. His genuine presence, without any kind of facade, was striking and pure, and something that inspired all those he met. There is a reason that people set him in such high regard; it is because he treated everyone with an incredible respect, no matter who you were. It didn't matter that he was a powerful executive, because it was his sense of humility that brought him to the top anyway. He always had open ears to the music, because he was a true lover of music first. I can't be thankful enough to have learned from such a great person. We will miss you dearly, Bruce.
Last year, as a thank you, we wrote and recorded a song for Bruce at Converse Rubber Tracks Studios, as a tribute to him. When we gave him the track, which we entitled 'Bruce Lundvall,' his reaction was priceless. He just said, 'what' in the most unexpected manner you could possibly imagine. He loved the track, and chuckled a bit while enjoying the particularly expressive poetic bridge verse.
We planned to release the song with our next album, but given Bruce's passing, we wanted to share it immediately. We will re-release the track with the next album, along with a re-production of the tune.
Thanks for listening. Half of the proceeds will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the other half to towards the music, of course.
